Dr. Turner Gray
Assistant Director of Athletic Bands

Dr. Turner Gray is the Assistant Director of Athletic Bands at Rutgers University. His primary responsibilities include working with the Marching Scarlet Knights, the Pep Bands as well as serving as the visual coordinator for the marching band. Before arriving at Rutgers, Dr. Gray worked as the Pep Band Director at La Salle University in Philadelphia, PA.  

 

As an active performer, Dr. Gray has performed with groups including the Fox Valley Symphony Orchestra, the Madison Brass Band, the Aurora Brass Quintet, the Philadelphia Wind Symphony, and the Ocean City (NJ) Pops Orchestra. Dr. Gray has been a featured performer, presenter, and adjudicator at many regional and international conferences including the Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic, the International Women’s Brass Conference, and various tuba/euphonium conferences. Recently, Dr. Gray was named the winner of the 2nd Bb Bass position for the 3-time National Championship winning group, the Atlantic Brass Band. With a love for all things athletic bands, Dr. Gray’s research is centered around the ways in which the marching arts can be used as an effective teaching tool for all students—especially music majors.

 

Dr. Gray holds degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Washington State University, and the Florida State University College of Music. He is a member of the National Association for Music Education, Kappa Kappa Psi, College Band Directors National Association, and the International Tuba and Euphonium Association.
